rain hammered against the windows of the old, forgotten mansion, casting shadows that danced like ghosts on the cracked walls. Isla stood at the edge of the grand staircase, her fingers trembling as she gripped the banister. She had come here for answers, but now that she was inside, every instinct screamed for her to leave.
But she couldn't.
Not when he was here.
Elias.
He was a legend whispered in the darkest corners of the city—a man with a heart as cold as the grave, whose presence lingered like a shadow wherever death followed. They said he made deals with the desperate, offered solace to the broken. But what he truly took was something far more precious than their lives.
Their souls.
And Isla, broken and hollow after the death of her sister, had been desperate enough to call him.
The air in the room shifted. She felt him before she saw him, the familiar chill that pricked her skin, turning her blood to ice. He stepped from the shadows, his tall figure cloaked in black, as if the night itself obeyed him. His eyes were a deep, endless void, and when they met hers, Isla felt as though they saw through every layer of her soul, every secret, every lie.
"You returned," Elias's voice was velvet, laced with danger. "I wasn't expecting you so soon."
Isla swallowed hard. “You know why I’m here.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “You want what no one can give you.”
“I want my sister back.”
Elias stepped closer, the air around them thickening with his presence. “And what are you willing to give for such a request?”
Isla’s heart pounded in her chest, but she had already decided. She had made peace with it the moment she called on him. “Anything.”
The word hung in the air between them, and Elias’s gaze darkened. He reached out, his fingers brushing against her cheek, cold as death itself. “There’s always a cost, Isla. And you may find that some debts are too steep to repay.”
“I don’t care,” she whispered, her breath shaky. “I’ll pay whatever it takes.”
Elias’s smile widened, sinister yet entrancing. He leaned in close, his lips brushing her ear. “Very well. But know this—what I take from you will be far more than you can imagine.”
Before she could react, his lips met hers. The kiss was intoxicating, a mixture of pain and pleasure, as if she were sinking into darkness and light at once. Her mind spun, her body felt weightless, and in that moment, she realized the gravity of her choice.
When he pulled away, her legs nearly gave out beneath her. She gasped for air, but something had changed. The world felt different, colder. She looked up at Elias, whose eyes glowed with a strange hunger.
“I have what I need,” he said, stepping back, the deal sealed in blood.
Isla blinked, her heart hammering. “And my sister?”
A chuckle escaped his lips, dark and cruel. “Oh, she’ll return, but not as you remember. You wanted life, and I gave it. But life, Isla, is not without its darkness.”
Suddenly, the door behind her creaked open, and a figure stepped into the room. Isla’s breath caught in her throat. Her sister stood there, but something was wrong. Her eyes were hollow, her skin pale, her movements unnatural, as though she were a puppet being pulled by invisible strings.
Isla’s heart shattered.
“What did you do?” she screamed, turning to Elias.
“You asked for her back,” he said, his voice calm. “I merely delivered.”
Tears streamed down Isla’s face as she stumbled toward her sister, her hands trembling. “No... no, this isn’t her... this isn’t right.”
Elias's dark eyes gleamed with triumph. “A soul for a soul, Isla. That was the price. You gave yours to bring her back.”
Her world spun as the realization sunk in—she had given up her own soul for something that was no longer human, no longer the sister she loved.
“You can have her,” Elias whispered in her ear, “but you can never be free. You belong to me now.”
Isla looked at her sister, the empty shell of the girl she had once known, and knew there was no escape. Her heart, now entwined with
the darkness, belonged to him. Forever.
